Implant Treatment

Implant Treatment

Implant treatment is amongst the most significant treatments that are developed in the dentistry field. You can get a strong and aesthetically perfect image of teeth that also lasts for many years thanks to the implant screws that are planted in the jawbone with this treatment.

Dental Implant

Dental implants are the type of artificial dental roots that are placed in order to make up for teeth loss. In a manner of speaking, the dental implants, which are used in the production of a new generation of full oral dental dentures that is fixed to implant screws in the lower and upper jaws in order to get rid of dental prosthesis in completely edentulous people, create wonders in filling the gaps that are caused by one or more loss of teeth.

Based on the expectation of the patient, porcelain or zirconium teeth are used on the upper structure right after the titanium screws that are planted on the jawbone are healed depending on the requirements of the treatment.

What is an Implant?

The dental implant is the artificial titanium roots of the teeth that are planted in the jawbone with an operation in order to re-create the missing roots.

As the roots of the teeth are of different thicknesses and lengths, the implant screws do also differ depending upon the root of the tooth, location of the jawbone, and the depth of placement.

Likewise, the implants to be applied are determined individually as every person has different structured roots. Male and female roots of the tooth are also different as many states such as the bone structure and gender are determinant attributes.

In a framework, the complete implant treatment consists of finishing off the artificial tooth roots that are used with the aim of treating one or many missing teeth with porcelain and zirconium teeth on the upper structure with regards to the loss of tooth and individual planning.

Types of Implants

Implant treatment depends upon the number of teeth that are missing and the condition of the jawbone. There is an obligation for the jawbone to have enough tissue volume for the screws to be able to be planted.

Even though in some situations we go for bone growth in order to clear this, it is not much possible to perform this procedure for each tooth. The correct approach would be to make the choice between the two kinds of implant treatments by considering the oral condition and the purpose of the treatment:

  • Endosteal Implants

This is the kind of implant that we consider as the intraosseous implant which has subtypes such as cylindrical, screw, and blade. It is possible to treat the loss of one or many teeth creating gaps in the same place in structures such as doublet and triplet upper structures under the favour of endosteal implants which are being used as single tooth implants.

The gap on the jawbone is filled by performing an endosteal implant procedure by also protecting the healthy teeth in the case of having loss of tooth on different parts of the jawbone.

There are approximately 3 months of healing and bone union process. Afterwards this healing process, just the implants or the whole oral structure on the upper structure are restored with porcelain veneers.

  • Subperiosteal Implant

This is the implanting method that we attend to more on the conditions that the patient has lost all the teeth on a jaw or that use palatal prostheses.

For people who have lost their teeth a long time ago, jawbone thinning is a frequently encountered condition. Some other factors along with chewing cause the jawbone on the area where there are no teeth to disappear slowly in time. The same situation is also encountered with people, especially women, who have been using palatal prostheses.

Under these conditions, it might not be possible to give a total oral are endosteal implant treatment which requires placing at least 8 implant screws on the upper and lower palate.

The subperiosteal implant can be described as a kind of combination of prostheses and implants which gives us the opportunity to get rid of the handicaps of palatal prostheses. Infrastructure is built by planting 4 or 6 screws that the prosthetic plate for the teeth to be lined up on is tightly placed.

Subperiosteal implants, which provide maximum speech and chewing comfort, are aesthetic and highly effective dental restoration applications that assure high satisfaction in patients.

Advantages of Implant Treatment

  • With implant treatment, oral and dental health can be provided and last for many years.
  • It prevents tooth loss.
  • Averts jawbone thinning.
  • As missing teeth cause the digestive system to get disrupted, implant treatment give a positive effect on the holistic state of health.
  • It can be carried out in cooperation with the other aesthetic dental applications with the purpose of creating a smile aesthetic.
  • Tissue-friendly titanium-made dental implants can be used without having any problems for many years.
  • Under the favour of artificial roots of the tooth, you permanently get rid of problems like decay and abscess as well as pain on the teeth and jaw.

What is the Procedure of Implant?

The scope of the treatment is determined according to the oral examination to see if the jawbone is suitable for the implant or not, in other words, according to the number of missing teeth and then the treatment process begins. There are three steps in implant treatment:

  1. Before the Dental Implant Process

The distance and the connection points of the nerves and bodily cavities are examined through the instruments of X-ray and tomography. The location of the implant treatment area is determined as accordingly.

The pre-implant surgical operation which we call bone feeding is performed if there is a tissue loss on the jawbone. There might be a waiting period between a month and 3 months after the bone growing operation for the screwing process.

The pre-implant process is completed in a short time after deciding on the type of implant treatment, the number of screws, and the locations that they will be placed in the case that the bone tissue is ready to grasp the screw.

  1. Dental Implant Operation

It is a painless surgical dentistry operation in which each implant screw is placed within under 20 minutes under local anesthesia. The duration of the operation may vary in accordance with the number of screws that will be placed.

There is a process of 3-6 months for the screws which are planted in the jawbone to hold tight to be able to take on the task of a tooth root. The implants are covered with temporary teeth after the first ten days in order to compensate the teeth gaps.

  1. Afterwards the Dental Implant

At the final stage of the treatment, after the dental implants are placed on the jawbone as strong as the original tooth root, the upper structure, and the teeth are attached to the screws.

The treatment is completed by attaching the porcelain or zirconium teeth on the implant screws as full dentures or single or triple veneers by also taking the smile aesthetics into account depending on the determined method.

Who Can Get an Implant Treatment?

Any adult men or women can get an implant treatment if they have one or more missing teeth for any reason.

Who Cannot Get an Implant Treatment?

For mothers that are pregnant or in breastfeeding period, cancer patients that have an ongoing treatment period, people who have some blood diseases due to coagulation problems, and people with the bone thinning problem are not recommended to get implant treatment.

In Which Cases is Implant Treatment Used?

It is possible to compensate for the loss of teeth if there are more than one and if an oral denture is being used for the whole jaw.

Is Implant Treatment Difficult/Painful?

During the implant treatment, we work on the jaw bone, and much the same as all other operations considering bones, it is quite an expected condition to have some pain and swelling thereafter.

After the surgery that the implants are placed in the jawbone, in order to reduce the pain as much as possible and fasten the healing process, some antibiotics and pain-killing medicine are prescribed.

Many people may go through a rough phase on the first day, however, after the second day, the healing process gets faster. The pain will fade away in a few days.

Prices of Implant Treatment

Prices of dental implants are determined specifically upon each treatment. The variable conditions for determining the price of the implant treatment are the number of screws to be used, type of implant, and surgical procedure such as bone growth operation.

The quality of the clinic and the experience of the dentist also affect the budget of this treatment against tooth loss.

Prices of implant treatment in İstanbul are quite variable. We can say that it is quite necessary not to get below a certain amount of costs during the evaluation of implant prices when considering that the materials that are used are not cheap and the surgery performance requires a certain amount of experience.
