Porcelain Teeth

Porcelain Teeth

Shortly after the production of the veneers that look extremely similar to real teeth thanks to the porcelain used in dental prosthesis, porcelain teeth veneers started to be demanded not only to salvage the tooth or to fill in the missing teeth but also to renew mouth and teeth appearance aesthetically.

Porcelain teeth, in their development history from metal-supported porcelains to laminated veneers, are the prostheses that are most similar to natural teeth. Porcelain teeth provide the most similar aesthetic appearance to real teeth which are bone structures. Since its hygienic structure facilitates its use in the mouth, porcelain is the technically most suitable material to be used in tooth production.

Porcelain teeth, developed to compensate for tooth loss, provide excellent results in aesthetic dental treatments, as well as support to the digestive system and indirectly the general health condition.

Although some types are less preferred, porcelain is the main material we use in tooth restoration and compensation for tooth loss. Aesthetically and technically, an acceptable technique and material in dental veneers is the use of porcelain.

What is Porcelain Veneer?

Porcelain veneering is the process of covering damaged or healthy teeth that has healthy roots with a porcelain prosthesis by cutting a certain amount or without any cutting at all.

Porcelain veneers, which allow us to work over a single tooth, are used in the missing tooth treatment. In this application, which we call a bridge, the tooth on both sides of the missing tooth provides the infrastructure for porcelain veneer. Thus, even if the tooth root is missing the missing tooth is filled by the bridge.

Depending on the material and method used porcelain veneers made for aesthetic purposes can also be applied with minimal tooth filing or without incision.

Porcelain tooth veneering is a dental restoration method that we use for therapeutic purposes to create and protect oral and dental health, and for aesthetic purposes for those who are not satisfied with the shape, color, and position of their teeth.

What Does Porcelain Veneer Do/When Does it Used?

  • In order to prevent gaps in the jaw in dental decays that cannot be salvaged by filling, the tooth root is protected with porcelain veneering treatment.
  • It is possible to make a bridge with porcelain veneering and relieve missing teeth as an alternative to implant treatment for missing teeth.
  • Porcelain veneers are used for tooth restoration in persons who are disturbed by the wear of their teeth due to aging or genetic reasons.
  • Porcelain laminate veneers used in smile design are a common tooth method to obtain an aesthetically perfect mouth and smile design.

Porcelain Veneer Types

There are different varieties of porcelain teeth depending on their materials, applications, and purpose of use:

Metal Supported Porcelain Veneers

Metal-supported porcelain veneers, which are used in the treatment of conditions such as severe dental decays, tooth loss, post-traumatic tooth damage, fractures, and dental diseases, or in the treatment of damaged teeth, are used to restore oral health.

Metal-supported porcelain veneers, which are not as popular as before in the aesthetic recovery of teeth are less preferred due to metal’s negative effects on the gingiva.

After the roots of the problematic teeth are fixed, while attaching the porcelain veneer under the healthy part of the tooth, depending on the content of the treatment the healthy teeth may need to be cut. This is another handicap, but sometimes such losses are accepted for the whole of oral health.

The patient uses a temporary prosthesis while metal-supported porcelain veneers are being prepared. Thus, the condition of the teeth is monitored while using temporary porcelains before permanent teeth are attached. After the first fitting, necessary touches are made and porcelain veneers are bonded to their places for approximately 10 years of use.

Full Porcelain Empress Dental Veneers

When it comes to porcelain veneers, the criterion of success is naturalness. The more similar the veneers are to the real teeth, the more successful the treatment is. Achieving this effect is closely related to the material used as well as the ability and success of the dentist.

Thanks to full porcelain dental veneers, it has become possible to make extremely natural veneers that are difficult to distinguish from real teeth.

This is the treatment for those who shy away from dental treatment even though they are not satisfied with the color or health of their teeth because they do not like the artificial sight of the veneers.

Moreover, since metal-supported porcelain does not have negative effects such as discoloration on the gingiva, tissue-friendly porcelain veneers are safely preferred in whole mouth porcelain teeth treatment and aesthetical dentistry.

Full porcelain veneer teeth are also an application in which the teeth are cut. In the absence of a single tooth, they can be used as an alternative in implant treatment yet, as they are not durable as the metal-supported teeth or zirconium, whole porcelains might not be preferred in bridges.

Laminate Veneer / Porcelain Laminate Veneer

Porcelain laminate is the peak of the porcelain veneer. The laminate veneer processes, in addition to providing us with aesthetically perfect and natural teeth, wear the teeth minimally or teeth are not cut at all.

Porcelain laminates are used for the aesthetic regeneration of front teeth and smile design. Whole mouth application is combined with porcelain laminate veneer in frontal incisors and full porcelain empress veneers in molars.

How is Porcelain Veneer Made?

Porcelain dental veneers are applied in different processes depending on the content of the treatment and which porcelain veneer type will be used but, except for porcelain laminates, porcelain veneer tooth production follows the following processes:

  • While clarifying which teeth need to be veneered, the teeth and tooth roots in the whole mouth are monitored by imaging devices.
  • The mouth is made healthy with necessary canal treatment, decay filling, etc. treatments.
  • If there is an infection in the gingiva, it should be treated.
  • After creating a healthy and hygienic environment in the mouth the teeth are measured and cut.
  • Then they are re-measured, then porcelain veneers are applied.
  • While waiting for 4 days to 1 week for the completion of the veneers the cut teeth of the patients are covered with temporary veneers.
  • Then the fitted teeth are permanently bonded.

The Lifespan of a Porcelain Veneered Tooth

Porcelain veneers are applied to be used for an average of 10 years without any problems. The patients who use veneers for long years in a healthy and trouble-free manner are among the ones who regularly visit a dentist and take good care of their teeth.

The structure of the gingiva and oral secretions varies from person to person genetically, and, similar to natural teeth, the life of porcelain veneer teeth is highly affected by the oral flora.

While using porcelain teeth is easy, some people have to take extra care of that.

Porcelain or Zirconium?

Zirconium veneers are also a type of porcelain veneer. They are porcelain teeth supported with zirconium instead of metal. The comparison of porcelain and zirconium is mostly about the comparison of metal-supported porcelains and zirconium teeth.

We can say that compared to metal-supported porcelain veneers, zirconium veneers are more useful and durable materials, especially in terms of gingival health.

Laminated veneers and zirconium veneers are not subject to comparison. Also, full porcelains are popular and durable teeth as much as zirconium veneers.

The important issue here is to use materials that are suitable for the needs of the treatment and the patient’s budget in the best way.

Porcelain Veneer Prices

Porcelain tooth veneer prices are budgeted on a case-by-case basis according to the type of porcelain veneer to be applied, how many teeth will be veneered, and the required treatments for teeth before porcelain veneer.

In Istanbul, porcelain veneer prices vary from district to district. Material quality, service standard, and dentist experience are other important criteria that determine porcelain veneer prices.

If it is done for cheap it is inevitable to compromise on material quality or workmanship. Therefore, we recommend that you do not rely on prices below a certain range.
